NHMC Scale Day 2012 on 26-02-2012

I’d like to start by saying WOW! What an awesome event. We arrived out at the field at sparrow fart and as we started preparing the pit area we were greeted by a beautiful rainbow just as the early morning drizzle cleared. It was at that point that I knew it was going to be a great day. The sky cleared, the sun came out and that’s the way it stayed.

It wasn’t long before we had the fridge full of cold drinks and the freezer full of ice-creams with the BBQ alongside. We even had a charging station with mains power as well as 12V DC for anyone wanting to charge batteries.  These were all well frequented during the day with plenty of food and drink for all.

With pilot briefing over we got underway with what the NHMC does best “having fun” lots of members and guests got stuck into it and tore up the skies. Every time Carl approached the flight line with his awesome Mil24 Hind everyone stopped and soaked in the amazing spectacle that seeing this helicopter in the flesh really is. Congratulations go to Carl for winning the day’s major prize of “Best Scale”

With the sun shining and little wind everyone was able to get lots of flights in along with lots of ice-creams to keep cool. It never ceases to amaze me just how many people we get along to our events. Every event we do seems bigger and better than the last, and this one was certainly no exception with literally hundreds upon hundreds of people coming along to enjoy the day with us.

The afternoon entertainment was provided by a couple of our members putting on a fantastic fireworks display with the fireworks routine being set off remotely from a second transmitter. There was also a raffle for an awesome hamper.

The afternoon wrapped up with a whole lot more flying and then moved into prize giving. As mentioned earlier, well done to Carl for winning best scale and to Gary for best scale runner up. After prize giving the lads continued on flying the pants off their machines and I’m sure everyone went home with flat batteries and not just in the models, I know I sure did

I would like to give my thanks to everyone that helped out and also to you the members for coming along, we had a great crowd who all had a great time. Special thanks to all the out of town folk that made the long trek to join us, it was much appreciated and we look forward to hosting you again. It really was an AWESOME event and I’m already looking forward to our next one.

There will be lots of photos of all the scale models from the being uploaded here soon.

Looking forward to seeing you all out at the field soon.
